Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan - Kitchen Before + After

I'm going to be honest here... I hesitated to write this blog post. I finished painting our kitchen cabinets with Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan a few months ago. We LOVE them, we are so unbelievably happy with the end result. So why am I just now posting about it?

Sharing our new home has been surprisingly nerve wracking. Until I forced myself to sit down and write this I didn't really even know why. My husband and I are truly enjoying the process of making this our home. Normally, I am so driven to just get things DONE. With this I am finding that we simply want to take our time. We want to revel in this period of our lives. We don't want to feel rushed into a decision that doesn't feel right.

Okay, so why am I so nervous to share this process? What is that all about?! I look around our home and love every half completed project. But the minute someone asks how it is going, the glass is suddenly half empty. Am I waiting for it to be perfect? Am I worried that nobody will care what our kitchen looks like? Am I feeling insecure, unprepared to be compared to all those beautiful designer homes on our Instagram and Pinterest feeds? Probably. Most definitely.

You know what? I don't like that. Not one bit. Things take time, and they should.

So I am determined to push myself to share these things with you. Why? Because if you want to paint your kitchen cabinets... but think for one split second that you can't, I am here to tell you THAT YOU CAN! With Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan, YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN! If you are worried that it won't look beautiful, it will! Trust me, IT WILL!! And if you are worried that it will take you too long, it won't! In the grand scheme of life, taking a couple of weeks to paint your kitchen cabinets will totally be worth it. My mom always told me to never worry about how long something will take, because the time will pass anyway. Wouldn't you rather look back and have completed something amazing?

Okay... so this is what we started with: Oak. Greasy, grimy oak and linoleum.

After a lot of Krud Kutter (pictured above #notanad #loveyoukrudkutter) and a few quarts of Annie Sloan's Old White, here is the finished product! <3 <3 <3

Fast forward a few months later... we've moved in and have now been using our cabs every day since! I probably love them even more now than the day I finished painting them. They are crisp, bright, and beautiful! So easy to clean and maintain. I honestly would not change one thing about them!

So this is where I start to feel nervous. Every single morning I can't wait to brew my coffee in here and listen to all the birds chirping outside our kitchen window. I love this window, seriously... what is my thing with window sills? Then the minute I go to snap a picture to share with the world I become very aware with the fact that I haven't finished decorating this space yet. Why haven't I picked out curtains? This room needs some fabric, maybe a sheer? Should I have hidden our sponges and dish soap before I snapped this picture? Okay no, stop Rachel. Just stop. Get over yourself, this is a kitchen. This is our kitchen. We don't have a dishwasher, so we are pretty darn attached to those sponges, they aren't going anywhere! I have to keep reminding myself that we want our home to feel collected from a lifetime of experiences, gathered rather than decorated. And that can not happen in a couple of months!

I'm going to say this one more time - You, my dear are so capable of painting your kitchen cabinets with Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan!!
